<p>From birth to marriage, often multiple child-bearing and finally old age, women in Africa (and in a number of rural or tribal societies) have a peculiar position.</p></div>
<p><span id="more-416"></span>Women are omnipresent in the private sphere and in the family home; they play a variety of parts and are responsible for most household activities. The question at the heart of this exhibition is about how women are represented in African art.</p>
<p>Over 130 items (mostly statues, masks, and symbols of distinction such as headdresses) will be on display to show the many faces of feminine representation.</p>
