Dear friends,

Will you come visit me in Paris ? I will bring really nice objects this year with known provenance.

French unions are planning a one-day strike to protest against planned pension reforms on Sept. 7 2010, my Shop will be open, but expect serious problems to travel into Paris.

When in Paris you should not miss the exhibition around Les statues meurent aussi the censored movie Alain Resnais and Chris Marker did in 1953 against colonialism and showing 150 related objects at the Monnaie de Paris 11, Quai de Conti – 75006 Paris 9 september-2 October 2010.

Seems the Bruneaf  has lesser visitors and buyers each year. During the weekend there where several auctions at Sothebys and Christies and also a big auction with the collection of Jacques Kerchache, where an important Tschokwe was preempted to the quai Branly for one and a half million – draining the good clients to Paris.

Some dealers did quite well, and there where beautiful objects at really affordable prices in Brussels available among the vetted dealers.

Even some dealer who are not members of the Bruneaf did good business, and the actions taken to stop them and warn clients they should be cautious did not stop customers buying in Shop with shiny catalogues and professional presentations, even if the objects seemed questionable. The  Bruneaf 2010 is in it’s XXth edition will take place this year in the streets around the Sablon in Brussels  from 9-13 June 2010. The first day most galleries open at 3 P.M. together with the Parcours des Mondes fair, this European event is one of the best to find genuine African and tribal Arts from around the World, and collectors and dealers from everywhere join yearly to see beautiful things and meet with friends.

Dear members of the african art club,

Find below some of the images I have taken during the Brafa show on the stands. The Brafa is happening in Tours and Taxis in Brussels and ends on Januari 31 2010.  At the opening reception there was slightly less visitors than last year, but all dealers where quite happy and sold many objects.

I have taken pictures of the nicest objects on the stands of Claes Gallery, Pierre Dartevelle, Galerie Jacques Germain, Galerie Bernard Dulon, POM (Patrick & Ondine Mestdagh), Galerie Serge Schoffel.
