-Exposition de la galerie Didier Claes, “Art premiers d’Afrique noire”, Brafa 2013
- La Galerie Jacques Germain expose à BRAFA 2013 de Bruxelles, speaks about two old Bakotas

-Serge Schoffel Bete masks
The seventeen Bete masks presented at BRAFA belong to a corpus of still little known traditional African arts. These astonishing works express impressive power with concision and inventiveness. Their lines are harmonious and the architectural composition of their volumes gives these fantastic faces a strong three dimensional structure. This is a unique form in African art. In their original context, the masks were intended to inspire fear and respect. By their presence, these incarnations of super-human beings remind of the profound mysteries of nature and existence. The impression their creators sought to make still remains.

Dear $email,

Tomorrow a little auction in France has some 221 interesting objects – Baulé’s from the ivory coast mainly. Low estimates and quite good quality for these prices. 15 January 2:30 p.m. Click here to see the catalogue link etc…

For those of you who paid me 100 € with a credit card last year for the African Art Club subscription, it is time to renew your subscription, it would be easier for me if you use the paypal system ( that also accept credit card payments)
If you enjoy my updates and are on a monthly payment, why not switch to the yearly payment, it is much cheaper. You should do it before I raise my prices once again.

Many of you will be in Brussels next week for the winter Bruneaf 19-23 January and the Brafa Fair 21-30 January 2011.I will not show my pieces in Brussels, but simply be in my Shop in Antwerp for conviviality.

You can meet me in Brussels or Antwerp by appointment, or come say hello without appointment for a friendly drink on Sunday January 23 between 3 and 7 P.M. on the Katelijnevest 27. B2000 Antwerpen, ans see some of my recent acquisitions like the XIXth century Lega mask coming from the John Dintenfass collection or an impressive Big 90cm high Songye covered with skin, bells, horns and cupper coming from a private Dutch collection.Since I will have to travel a few times between Brussels and Antwerp, if you plan to visit me before Sunday the 23rd just call +32 3 227.35.40.
