After a big pre columbian selection, the  collection African Art objects start at lot 199 till lot 284.

Worth mentionning is lot 221 a Lumbo or Punu figure that was already in Sidney Burney collection in 1942, Arthur Rotenberg collection and estimated $2500 ht. 11 1/2 in. – image on your right

Also in this auction a Songye stool already sold at Sotheby’s in 2002  that once belonged in the 1940′s to Frank Crowinshield – lot 251 . And much more interesting African Art.

The auction continues with Clubs and polynesian art and the impressive  lot 294. Polynesian Carved Wood “Lizard Man” Figure, Easter Island, Moaimoko, c. 19th century, an unusual standing male form with hand/claws to the upper chest, the upward gazing oversized head with a combination of human/lizard features, the inlaid eyes appear to be jade rings with obsidian centers, dark patina, ht. 26 in. Provenance: Arthur Rothenberg collection, purchased at a Bond Street Gallery in London, 1943-44. Image of this lot and more details in the members section below ...
