One very usefull tool I use to authenticate African Art is the Yale-Van Rijn Photographic Archive.

This is the largest photographic digital database of African art, and is a division of the Department of African Art, established in 2004, at the Yale University Art Gallery. The Archive has been under development by Guy van Rijn, for several decades. In 2001, the project was acquired and funded for Yale by James J. Ross (Yale B.A. 1960). The ultimate goal is to make the Archive accessible online, but at present it is available for general research by appointment only at the Department of African Art at Yale, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, or at the Van Rijn Documentation Centre, Brussels, Belgium. total of the sold lots: 423,200 € without costs

I liked the quality of this auction

Carl Ferdinand Schaedler Auction Results

I guess that Mr Schaedler will be happy with the amount of money he will receive, but I guess it was not his ideato go back home with 86 % of his pieces.

Some of the top quality pieces found a new home, and also the cheapest priced items (that probably where sold without a limit price)
see some images from the highest results and auction house details, and a link to the online catalog with images from all the lots,  below in the members section

Man Ray Simone-KahnMan Ray African Art and the Modernist Lens

Man Ray Man Ray, African Art, and the Modernist Lens ~ Wendy A. Grossman

Washington October 10, 2009-January 10, 2010

Man Ray, Simone Kahn (with Vanuatu male figure, eastern Malekula), c.1927. © 2009 Man Ray Trust / Artists Rights Society (ARS), NY / ADAGP, Paris

Man Ray translated the 20th-century modernist taste for African art into photographs that reached a popular audience. About 60 of his photographs, many never before exhibited, along with more than 40 photographs by his contemporaries, including Cecil Beaton, Walker Evans, and Alfred Stieglitz, will appear side-by-side with 20 of the African objects featured in the images. The exhibition explores the pivotal role of these photographs in shaping the perception of non-Western objects as fine art. Man Ray, African Art and the Modernist Lens is organized by International Arts and Artists.
