A magnificent Luba female figure, Democratic Republic of Congo

Price realized: €547,000 December 2008, Paris

The last years Christie’s always lagged behind Sotheby’s with auctions bringing ten times less than those at Sotheby’s.  This was due to the low estimates that expert Tim Teuten gave on objects to attract dealers, but discouraging collectors to bring in important pieces and collections.
But since they bought out Susan Kloman, things seems to change.International Specialist Head

When I see that high end dealers like at www.paceprimitive.com promote accessibly priced pieces of great quality starting at 3,600 $, and that some Bruneaf dealers like Jo de Buck are holding Blowout Bargain Sales I begin to ask myself questions, and you?

1 MAY 2009
Ever since he was a child Prince Henrik has been fascinated by African art. So to celebrate his 75th birthday the spouse of Queen Margrethe of Denmark decided to give art fans a glimpse at favourite pieces from the extensive collection he’s built up over the years.

The France-born royal – who celebrates his milestone birthday on June 11 – has selected 200 sculptures and masks to feature in a special exhibition entitled To Gods, Spirits And Ancestors – Art From Africa.

This is  quite good book about an exhibition that just finished, if you like small ethnoraphic objects like african combs, I recommend reading this book. You can read it online at  books.google.com, or if you like me, enjoy hardcover books, you can buy the book on Amazon:  african art world bank

Read also:

World Bank African Art Collection

This first catalogue featuring pieces from the World Bank’s permanent art collection focuses on African traditional artwork–textiles, sculptures, pottery, and paintings as well as functional objects–from the Maghreb to Mali and from the former Zaire to Zambia. Three essays accompanying the photographs provide threads on how to interpret historical, social, and religious meaning in these works of art.
